“A book is only a manuscript until it finds its reader. Everything between the two the printing, the shipping, the shelving, the conversation is our craft.”

About

About DBWW

Distribute Books Worldwide was founded in 1984 in a modest brick warehouse on North Congress Street in Jackson, Mississippi, by a small group of book people who had spent their careers watching remarkable manuscripts languish for want of a proper channel. Regional authors, small university presses and independent imprints were producing work of genuine merit and reaching only the readers within a day’s drive of their printer.

The founding premise was straightforward and, at the time, quietly radical: a single, disciplined partner could carry a title from the loading dock in the American South to a bookshop window in Buenos Aires, a university reading list in Edinburgh, or a departure gate in Singapore without the author or publisher ever needing to learn the geography of freight, customs, metadata or trade terms.

Forty years on, that premise has become an institution. The warehouse still stands. The methods have grown considerably more sophisticated. The commitment has not moved an inch.

Our Philosophy

Distribution That Makes Difference

Patience over noise

Books have long lives. Our systems, catalogues and relationships are built for years, not quarters because a title’s readership is often assembled slowly, one reader at a time.

Placement over volume

We measure ourselves by where a book appears the right shop, the right shelf, the right catalogue, the right classroom not merely by how many warehouses received a pallet.

Discretion over spectacle

We do not publish under our own name, and we do not seek the front of the room. Our success is best evidenced by the quiet, sustained presence of our clients’ work in the world.

The Practice

What we actually do

Behind the polished vocabulary of the trade, distribution is the daily work of moving books, information and money across borders and doing so cleanly enough that a publisher can spend its attention on the next manuscript.

Trade Distribution

We place trade titles into independent bookshops, national retail chains, specialty and lifestyle outlets, and museum and gift shops across our operating regions.

Online & Digital Retail

We manage listings, metadata, pricing and availability on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple Books, Google Play, Kobo, Bookshop.org and regional equivalents.

Library & Academic Supply

We supply public, academic, university, school and government libraries in print and digital formats through the wholesalers and platforms they already use.

Airport & Travel Retail

We secure placement in airport bookstores, travel hubs, rail terminals, cruise programs and hospitality partners that put titles in front of millions of travellers each year.

Wholesale & Institutional Sales

We integrate our clients’ catalogues with the wholesale networks that supply retailers, institutions, government agencies and corporate buyers.

Rights & Event Representation

We represent titles at Frankfurt, London, Bologna, Guadalajara, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, BookExpo and other principal fairs for exposure and market development.

The Practice

What we actually do

Behind the polished vocabulary of the trade, distribution is the daily work of moving books, information and money across borders and doing so cleanly enough that a publisher can spend its attention on the next manuscript.

Metadata Integrity

Every ISBN, BISAC code, cover file, descriptive copy and territorial right is verified before a title is released to a single channel. Poor metadata is the quietest killer of book sales; we do not permit it.

Territorial Discipline

We respect and enforce the territorial rights our clients hold or license. A title reaches only the markets it is contractually and culturally intended for.

Transparent Reporting

Sales, returns, royalties and inventory are reported on a predictable calendar in a format the client can actually read not a data dump requiring translation.

Continuity of Contact

Each client is served by a named account team that does not rotate. The person who knew your first title still knows your fifteenth.

Print & Digital Parity

Print, ebook and audio editions are managed with equal seriousness. A digital-only strategy and a print-only strategy are both, in our view, half a strategy.

Long-Tail Respect

Backlist titles receive the same catalogue hygiene, availability checks and channel maintenance as new releases. A book two years old is still a book.

What We Believe

Beyond Books.

We do not think of ourselves as a logistics vendor and we do not think of books as interchangeable units. Each title we accept is the product of a particular writer, editor, designer and press and each carries the reputation of everyone whose name appears on its copyright page.

Our role is to move that object through the world with the same care its makers used to build it. That belief has not changed since 1984, and it will not change now.

Craft

The trade is old. Its standards are earned. We keep them.

Confidence without volume

We answer clearly, ship reliably, and do not oversell.

A long view

Publishers are lifetime partners. Careers, not campaigns.

Global fluency

A book that travels well is a book that has been prepared to travel.

Global Distribution. Strategic Placement. Worldwide Visibility.
